We are delighted to announce that Joelle, Founder and Director of Bluebird Pictures, will be directing Queenie, a TV Drama based on the best selling novel by Candice Carty-Williams. The 8 episode series has been commissioned by Channel 4, and backed by Onyx Collective, a content brand owned and operated by Disney Entertainment, primarily consisting of projects from creators of colour and other underrepresented groups. The story follows Queenie Jenkins, a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in south London, straddling two cultures and slotting neatly into neither. After a messy breakup with her long-term boyfriend, Queenie seeks comfort in all the wrong places and begins to realize she has to face the past head-on before she can rebuild. Queenie will stream exclusively on Disney Plus, Hulu and Star+. More details here
Carty-Williams is the showrunner and Executive Producer of the series, and Joelle will be directing the series alongside Makalla McPherson. The cast has officially been announced, with the series starring Dionne Brown, Samuel Adewunmi, Bellah, Sally Phillips, Jon Pointing, Tilly Keeper, Llewella Gideon, Michelle Greenidge, Cristale De’Abreu, Elisha Applebaum and Mim Shaikh.
