We are thrilled to announce the launch of ‘Writer in Residence’, a free programme offering support and guidance to filmmakers who are looking to develop their TV script into a fully developed pilot.

‘Writer in Residence’ is a free competition, where the winner will have the opportunity for Bluebird Pictures Film Production company to guide them into developing their TV pilot, based on a sample of their script. The winner will not only receive one to one mentoring from CEO Joelle David, one of the most sought after Directors in the UK film industry right now, but they will also receive a £3000 bursary and a live-reading of their script at the World Cinema Film Festival.

Bluebird Pictures was started in 2017 with the sole aim of creating honest, unapologetic projects, while supporting and nurturing creatives on and off screen. In an industry where the stories of marginalised communities continue to be excluded from the narrative, we believe more organisations need to take responsibility and real initiative, to ensure that no part of the industry is unobtainable for these groups. It’s a real privilege to be in a position where we can offer mentoring opportunities like this for up and coming filmmakers.

Joelle David, CEO of Bluebird Pictures, explains why she created this initiative; “We’ve been wanting to support an up and coming writer for a long time and we can’t wait to work with a forward thinking, passionate and creative writer with our new writer in residence programme” David Avery, Executive Producer of Bluebird Pictures stated; “I’m so excited to work with writers in this scheme. We want to find and nurture ideas that are courageous and unique. Bluebird Pictures is growing and working with talent that can help us all creatively mature, is what it’s all about.”

Writers simply need to submit a document with the title, logline and summary of their drama TV pilot, the first 5 pages of their script and an up to date CV to eleanor@bluebirdpictures.org Submissions are now open and will close 3rd May 2023 with the residence taking place from July – September 2023, and the live reading on the 29th September. Shortlisted candidates will take part in an interview process in June.

*Please note we will only ask for a couple hours of the winner’s time each week*

Good Luck!
