We are delighted to announce the dynamic duo Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek have joined our film festival as mentors to the winners this summer. The winning filmmakers, one from Barking and Dagenham and one from the rest of the world will have the chance to either meet in person or Skype the writers.

Writing partners Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin met in high school when they both worked for the same New England Shakespeare Company. After graduating from Brown and Stanford respectively, they worked in theater before transitioning to screenwriting. They still maintain a presence in the theater world with a keen interest in immersive, site-specific theatrical pieces. Their third play, Darkest Night at the Gnarly Stump was produced by Know Theatre of Cincinnati in the fall of 2016. They adapted the Grimm fairy tale The Twelve Dancing Princesses as an animated musical feature for Amazon Studios. In 2015, they sold the live-action Mulan to Disney which goes into production in early 2018. They followed Mulan by working on an adventure story for Sony Pictures Animation. Last year, they wrote a holiday comedy for Mar Vista which begins production this January. Recently, they’ve been hired to write two true story book adaptations — one for television and one as a feature. They are proud members of the Writers Guild of America West. Currently, they serve as the vice-chair and co-chair of the Committee of Women Writers at the WGAW.
