The World Cinema Film Festival

The World Cinema Film Festival is coming to Make It Barking from 23 – 25 September, with new partnerships and collaborations for a fun-filled weekend of film screenings, panels, food, music and poetry as well as a very special pitching session in front of industry professionals.

You don’t need to be a filmmaker to enjoy the World Cinema Film Festival, our relaxed atmosphere this year will ensure there’s something for everyone.

Friday 23rd September

Opening Gala ‘Made in Barking and Dagenham’ curated by collective One Room Live

In our main event space enjoy poetry by Isaac Malachi Peter and music by Ade ‘aka’ AANoise as well as facilitated networking by the One Room Live team.

In our exhibition space we will be showcasing short films made in Barking and Dagenham as well as interviews and trailers, how to connect to Film Barking and Dagenham and the future of film in the borough.

Saturday 24th September

In our main event space our short film showcases include:

Black and British: A collection of short films that explore Black British identity followed by a Q&A with some of the filmmakers.

The Best of World Cinema: A selection of foreign language short films.

Panel discussions:

The Future of Film: Industry professionals discussing how the landscape of film is changing and what to expect from them in the future. Panellists TBC

Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Industry professionals discussing breaking the glass ceiling in chosen field within the TV and film industry. Panellists TBC

In our exhibition space explore the future of filmmaking in Barking and Dagenham as well as a virtual reality experience and archive footage of the borough curated by One Room Live.

A vibrant mix of market stalls will also be operating outside Make It Barking.

FREE Afterparty 6pm – late: Music, including DJ set by Jannine Ngesang.

Sunday 25th September
In our main event space our short film showcases include:

Made You Laugh: A selection of short comedy films part of our BBC Comedy competition.

Short and Sweet: A collection of short films under 8 minutes

Panel discussions:

Meet the Commissioners: Find out what commissioners across different channels and streamers are looking for. Panellists TBC

Bare Jokes: A panel of comedy filmmakers and performers discussing their journeys in comedy. Panellists TBC

Our final event is a pitching session where 5 filmmakers will pitch their TV series idea in front of industry professionals, with the audience voting for their favourite. The winner will receive a prize on the night.

£1 of every ticket sold will go towards lunches for children at the Future Youth Zone in Dagenham.
