The World Cinema Film Festival

The World Cinema Film Festival was founded in 2018 by Bluebird Pictures owner Joelle Mae David.

Joelle wanted to create a festival directly linked to Bluebird to engage with and support emerging filmmakers all over the world.

Bluebird Pictures’ World Cinema Festival is back for its fourth year in 2021. With each year we have expanded the festival’s reach with winners coming from around the world and a bigger emphasis on national engagement in the UK. This is why we have carefully selected our partners this year and will be creating a very inclusive online platform.

The festival is a celebration of bridging the gap between cultures and communities through a universal love of film.

Every year over the course of 6 – 8 months, filmmakers globally are invited to submit a short film, documentary, or animation under 20 minutes on our FilmFreeway Festival platform.

This year we are committed to selecting films from a diverse range of filmmakers including subject matters, including Womxn filmmakers, BAME filmmakers, young filmmakers, regional filmmakers from around the UK, those experimenting with VR and 360, and showcasing student films from Barking and Dagenham College at the in-person event.

The film festival will be available online from September 19th – 26th 2021 including guest speakers, Q&As with industry pros, winners of films, and new award categories such as the Audience Favourites award where all selected films will be voted by attendees.

We will also be hosting an in-person awards ceremony on the 25th-26th September to celebrate the filmmaker’s submissions and create an immersive experience for our festival attendees.

Filmmakers will have the opportunity to win meetings with industry experts, Final Draft screenwriting software, a management deal with our friends at Emagine Content in Los Angeles, screening at the event in both London and LA, free membership with Backstage casting, ongoing support from Bluebird Pictures and much more!

This will be completely free to register for, however, we will also be including an ‘at-home ticket. This ticket will be a goodie bag full of treats, a programme, discounts, a limited tote bag and more to be announced.
